SWELTERING conditions didn’t stop keen runners turning out for the Burrator Horseshoe run on Saturday.
The traditional seven mile fell race was run on the same day of the Meavy Oak Fair and didn’t start until 3pm, by which time temperatures had soared on a day with very little breeze.
The course takes runners out from Meavy Village Green in a loop that takes in Burrator Reservoir, Sheepstor, Gutter Tor, Ringmoor Down and returns to the village via Meavy River Ford.
The first runner home in the race was Ceri Rees in an impressive time of 40.56. Okehampton Running Club had an impressive showing at the event, with their two runners finishing second and third — Rob Hicks in a time of 46.26 and Paul Crease just nine seconds behind in 46.35. For Paul it was a return to his preferred ground of Dartmoor, after a brief diversion to road running for the Ruby Run half marathon the previous week, where he had finished second.
The first athlete home for Tavistock Athletic Club was Steve Watson, who finished 11th overall in a time of 50.58.
Bere Alston Trekkers were also represented at the event by Fiona Maddock, who battled against the intense heat to complete the course in 1.39.20.
