Okehampton Men’s A 7

Lympstone 4

OKEHAMPTON Mens A team went into their final match of the season against Lympstone knowing that a good performance was required to avoid relegation.

Paul Love and Stuart Jarvis started strongly but had to battle hard to win their first match 7-5, 6-2. They got off to a terrible start in the second match and found themselves 0-3 down very quickly. They were able to regroup to take the set to a tie-break but could never get ahead and ended up losing it 5-7. At 2-4 down in the second set the match appeared to be lost but a great comeback saw them pull through to win 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 in the tie-break.

Okehampton’s second pairing of John Jarvis and Scott Green played well and stole the first set 6-4. Lympstone were also battling to avoid relegation and came back strong to take the second set 6-3, but Oke responded well to take the nail-biting tie-break 10-8. Scott and John struggled at the start of their second match and lost the first set 2-6 but came back to win the second 6-3 and despite some great defending, lost the third set 3-10. However, this led to an overall 7-4 win for Okehampton A to see them finish a very respectable 3rd place in the Exeter and District Tennis League Division 3.
