Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East
Okehampton Argyle 0
Teignmouth 1
ARGYLE were really disappointed to come away from this match without a point. Teignmouth are second in the table and going flat out for the league title, but Argyle battled hard against them all afternoon and only fell to a late goal after full back Chris Hollands had had to leave the field with an injury.
This was a tremendously hard working performance from Okehampton who defended superly throughout the match and who always threatened to take the points with a quick breakaway. Once again, Argyle were missing five of their squad but Corey Burns, Steve Madge and Eddie Packer stepped up from the Reserves and all performed well.
The visitors looked strong early on but Argyle's defence of Corey Burns, Tom McGratton, Dale Chadwick and Chris Hollands showed great strength and organisation in keeping the visitors' high scoring forwards in check.
Okehampton packed the midfield with Squire, Kinsey, Madge, Bradshaw and Crimmins, leaving only Coakley up front and all these players covered loads of ground in keeping the visitors under control and were always probing for a quick break out of defence. In the end the first half ended at 0-0 with neither team able to make the vital breakthrough.
After the interval, Teignmouth started to push Argyle back but still Okehampton held firm and defended well with Harry Geering making three fine saves to keep them in the game.
An injury to Hollands with about 20 minutes left meant the home defence had to re-arrange and Ollie Crimmins was pulled back to the left back position with Eddie Packer coming on in midfield.
With only ten minutes remaining, Teignmouth broke the deadlock. Geoff Breslan was allowed too much room on the right and his long cross was knocked down by Hayden Roe for Adam Fay to tap home.
Argyle still came back and almost saved the game when three minutes from time Ollie Crimmins' in-swinging ball from the left beat keeper Liam Jones, only for Scott Baxter to superbly head out from under his own bar and off the goal line.
This was a tremendous performance by Argyle's depleted squad against a team who have scored 70 goals this season so far. All the players deserve credit but man of the match goes to Corey Burns.
