Tavistock ladies 4

WITH only a week to go before the start of the league, newly appointed Okehampton team captain Emma Wiseman led the team through what was a tough but friendly match against local team, Tavistock.

Oke goalie Lucy Wiseman and forwards Ellie, Tilly and Zoe Curtis made their debut appearance for the ladies’ second team, having moved up from the junior section of the club. Their skills, enthusiasm and ambition remained consistent throughout the match, evidently undeterred by the more mature members of the formidable Tavistock team.

Ellie, Zoe Curtis and Rachel Adams worked hard in midfield with their block tackles and feeding the ball either out to waiting wingers Holly Davidson and Tilly or up to the edge of the circle to attackers Viv Weatherington, Emma Wiseman and Alex Collins. Their efforts to get the ball past the strong Tavistock defence and goalie proved too big a challenge on the day.

Tavistock made it a tough match for the home team’s defence. Debbie Pritchard and Anna Luxton had to work tirelessly to shadow the wingers in an attempt to prevent the ball penetrating the circle and even when they did, goalie Lucy Wiseman didn’t make it easy for them to score blocking several fast and accurate shots at goal.

However, Tavistock proved to be the stronger team with a well deserved 4-0 win.
