POLICE in West Devon are urging householders to keep an eye on the level of oil in their fuel tanks, with opportunist thieves known to be in the area.

PCSO Dave Chapple, of Tavistock Police, said that criminals were typically siphoning a small amount at a time so householders might not realise they were being targeted.

‘We are asking people to check the level of their tanks two or three times a week,’ he said. ‘The vast majority of people are stealing just five gallons at a time.’
