AN eagerly anticipated tie in the Devon Trophy Quarter Final between two local hockey teams was always going to be a good game with Tavistock first in the Southern two league and the hosts Okehampton 7th in the Southern one league.
But the first half saw Tavistock unable to get any kind of foothold in the game as the home side created several chances they just couldn't take. Eventually though with not long left of the half Brett Lawson continued his trophy scoring form to sweep home a reverse stick effort after a good save from the keeper.
Tavistock did have two short corners late in the half but between the keeper and defenders they weren't able to convert them. One nil was never going to be enough for Okehampton and after more good work and chances not being taken the team were riding their luck a little.
The game, played at Okehampton's Simmons Park, opened up as Tavistock looked for a way back into the game but another Oxenham tap in from a well worked short corner routine made it two nil to the hosts.
With four substitutes Okehampton rotated their players and always looked the fresher side against eleven men. Tavistock themselves worked a short corner well to half the deficit but the hosts ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next Okehampton will face ISCA B in the semi finals.
