A WOODEN fence which has been repeatedly vandalised will undergo a transformation when it becomes an open access way to the public.
The fence, which is situated on the Market Street site between Somerfield and the taxi rank, will be cleaned up and left open.
Mayor of Okehampton Cllr David Weekes, who also owns Okehampton Taxis, said: 'It will be so much better when the fence is left open.
'Once all the broken bits are cleared it will not only make it so much lighter at the rank, but it will also stop all the youths from hanging around behind the fence, which can be intimidating to people waiting or walking by.
'It will be a great improvement because it doesn't look so constricted and it will also give a better view for everybody.'
The fence is owned by Okehampton Town Council.
Work on the fence is due to start as soon as possible.
