TICKETS are now on sale for the South Zeal Summer Ball, which is being held on Friday, July 9.

More than 250 people are expected to attend the event, organised to raise funds for the village Recreation Ground and a number of local charities.

Chairman of the summer ball committee, David Warren, said: 'This is a really fantastic event and held to raise money for some really worthwhile local causes.

'We get support from people all around the Okehampton area and we're always delighted with the attendance and effort everyone makes.

'Anyone wanting to book a place or a table at the charity event is urged to get in contact quickly as tickets are selling fast.

'We're really looking forward to yet another glorious evening and hopefully a weekend full of fun and great weather.'

This year the theme is 'James Bond' and tickets are £30 each, including a three-course meal, live music from local band 'The Feel Good Factor' and a fun casino.

The ball is just one of many events that make up South Zeal's 'Big Weekend' — following the ball on Friday evening, Saturday sees the ancient Zale Fayre taking place on the field and in the marquee, with fun and games for all the family.

From midday to 6pm on the Saturday and the Sunday, the annual beer festival takes place in the marquee bar — a wide selection of real ales and a full bar available.
