Bill Slee cup
South Zeal Utd 5
Crediton 1
SOUTH Zeal came from a goal behind to win emphatically at the Recreation Ground on Saturday in the Bill Slee cup and progress to the third round of a competition that has seen them make the semi-finals twice in the last three seasons.
The visitors started well and took the lead after 10 minutes when a corner was only partially cleared and left one of the Crediton strikers with a simple header at the far post.
The home side had started slowly but with Darren Gilbert and Darren Prouse causing the Crediton defense problems it was no surprise when a three man move between Daniel Gibbs, BJ Weekes and Redd Cann saw the latter beat two defenders in side the box and hit a great drive into the net for the equaliser.
South Zeal took the lead ten minutes later when Darren Gilbert and Darren Prouse opened up the Crediton defence down the left leaving Darren Prouse to beat the visiting keeper at the near post with a good finish.
In the second half the home side dominated and when Harley Cann put them 3-1 up and Darren Gilbert scored a well deserved fourth goal there was no way back for Crediton as the Zeal defense of Reg Wonnacott, Lee Gilbert, Ben Davey and BJ Weekes stifled any Crediton attacking ideas and when they did break through Oliver Holman in the Zeal goal was on hand to make several great saves. With 10 minutes left an interchange of passes between Spencer Stallion, Phil Evans and Harley Cann saw Harley smash a tremendous shot from the edge of the box that went in off the far post to complete a good afternoon for South Zeal.
