CHAGFORD Art Group members held their summer exhibition last week, attracting visitors from as far afield as Germany and the USA.

Elizabeth Haughton, one of the group's members, said: 'The exhibition has gone very well. We were hesitant because of the economic climate but people have really supported us well and bought lots of our paintings.

'We've had visitors from as far afield as Germany and America in for the exhibition, It's been grand.

'We especially had a lot of visitors in when the market was on. Our opening night was also lovely — it was a party really.'

The group has gained a wide reputation through its most popular mutual-help policy in which member artists share their expertise with others.

The exhibition featured works in watercolour, oils, pastels and acrylics that included landscapes by Jo James, Chinese expression by Pat Boyd, aviation speciality works by Michael Wheeler and naive scenes by Ursula Radford.

The group meets mostly on Thursday afternoons in Chagford Cricket Ground pavilion, with some outdoor meetings in the summer. They welcome anyone with an interest in developing or sharing their skills with others.
