HARD work and determination paid off for one West Devon farmer when he received a special award last month.
Ivor Pellow, from Sourton, was awarded the certificate of appreciation by the then mayor of West Devon Borough Council, Alison Clish-Green.
The award was in recognition of Mr Pellow's dedication and commitment over many years in fundraising for local and national charities.
He was also presented with a pen holder in the form of a carved apple on a stand, made from local wood.
The 64-year-old said he likes to do something for those less fortunate than himself.
He said: 'Years ago I used to raise money for Okehampton Carnival and then I went on to raise money for MS.
'I have done a lot for that cause because my wife suffered from it before she passed away four or five years ago.
'I get a lot of satisfaction from doing it — it's hard work, but its definitely worth it.'
Mr Pellow, who is currently raising money for Devon Air Ambulance, has also supported Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, the Children's Hospice, Meldon village hall and the victims of the tsunami disaster.
Mr Pellow, who was nominated for the award by the Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council, said: 'When my wife had MS confirmed, as a person I could see her suffering and there was nothing I could do to help her.
'So this is my way of helping and it's really nice to be appreciated.'
