The Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust (DMAT), which runs schools across the Dartmoor area, has rolled out its inspiring project to create new learning opportunities to four local schools.
The AWE project, which stands for Awe, Wonder and Engagement, aims to create new learning opportunities for children across a wide range of subjects and offer them the chance to work with other local schools and the community.
Following its previous success over the Easter and May half-term holidays, DMAT have decided to extend the project to include Black Torrington Primary, Exbourne Primary, Bradford Primary and Bridestowe Primary schools, which it plans to begin before Christmas.
Dan Morrow, trust leader for DMAT, said: ’We are delighted to be bringing back the AWE Project, and I am so proud to see the imaginative and ambitious plans which the schools have come up with. As a Trust, we have always taken our role in the community incredibly seriously, and projects like this really do support this connection.
’As well as deepening our schools’ links with their communities, it encourages our students to be creative and develop the pride they feel to be part of their school. I would like to thank all the wonderful businesses and individuals who have supported us so far and am excited to see the projects develop.’
The trust will bring the project to the remaining 13 schools under their care throughout 2022.
The project was originally designed as a means of encouraging continued community support seen during the covid lockdowns and has continued to grow.
The project relies on the donations of local businesses and volunteers to provide schools with the materials they need to carry out their projects.
During the previous round of AWE projects, schools received donations of paint, bark chippings, seeds, stones, fencing and tyres from a wide range of businesses including DIY Supplies Home Hardware, TJ Davies General Maintenance, Euromaster and the Garden Shop Garden Centre.
Numerous local organisations, including Holsworthy Town Council and Tamar Trading, have already pledged their support for this series of AWE projects.
