CHILDREN from Hatherleigh, South Tawton, Boasley Cross, Black Torrington and four other primary schools enjoyed a hands-on science lesson at a specialist science facility last week.

The North Wyke research station, run by Rothamsted Research, hosts an annual science fair, inviting schools from the area and engaging children with science and their work first hand.

Throughout the three day fair, children enjoyed four workshops, carrying out a chemical analysis of soils, meteorological measurements, space-related experiments, creative physics and a fun activity about evolution.

The North Wyke farm has a fully resourced research centre with extensive facilities and grounds, with their research designed to contribute to the evidence base for sustainable, multifunctional land management systems that help protect natural resources, are adaptable to different production and environmental goals and take account of changing social, economic, policy and environmental conditions.
