VISITORS flocked from far afield to gain expert advice and learn about sustainable energy at the Chagford Energy Fair last weekend.

The energy fair provided informative talks about woodland and wood fuel opportunities, solar hot water and home energy generation.

The fair was hosted by CASE (Chagford Action for Sustainable Energy), in response to increased concerns about fuel security, rising energy prices and environmental effects of fossil fuels.

Claire Ashwheeler from CASE said: 'We were really pleased at how well attended the fair was. The installers and suppliers of sustainable energy were very busy. There was a lot of interest and people were looking at how to reduce their fuel bills and combining energy.'

CASE have installed 14 solar water systems in Chagford with help from a Dartmoor National Park Sustainable Development Fund grant, and the fair saw nine more local people sign up to CASE.

After taking in information, visitors were able to make their own smoothies with the bicycle smoothie maker from Growing Our Future, an artist-led community garden project at Okehampton College.
