THE Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton is holding two sessions in the hope of taking on new volunteers.
The sessions will be on Thursday February 26 from 11am to 12.30pm and Friday February 27, from 1.30pm to 3pm.
They will be held at the museum and will be aimed at encouraging people who might be interested in volunteering.
Museum curator Maurie Webber said: We are looking for volunteers to help us in different areas.
'We want someone who will be able to talk to visitors, do research and look after the collection and someone who would do ground maintenance, like looking after the shrubs and plants.
'We also hope that someone will go to various homes with people suffering from dementia and short term memory loss.
'That volunteer would need to have background knowledge on what's in the museum because we would want them to take an item with them and talk about it to residents.
'The idea is to jog people's long term memories, to help them remember the old days.'
Everyone is welcome who can spare a day, half a day, or just a couple of hours a week to help.
Anyone interested can come along and take a look around the museum and meet present volunteers to chat about the various opportunities available.
l The museum is holding a familiarisation session for businesses who run tourist attractions and accommodation in and around Okehampton.
The session will give businesses in the area a chance to see what the museum has to offer tourists who visit the town and surrounding area, as well as gaining ideas for themselves.
Doors will be open on Friday March 13 between 2pm and 4pm.
