Safer Internet Day 2019 was celebrated globally on Tuesday (February 5) under the uniting slogan of ‘Together for a better internet’.
Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police supported the day which was coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre.
Hundreds of organisations and many more individuals got involved and joined a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.
The day called upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies and policymakers to join together and help to create a better internet.
Each year for Safer Internet Day the UK Safer Internet Centre creates a range of resources to help educational settings and wider to celebrate the day which includes lesson plans, assemblies and films tailor-made for all ages.
The latest educational resources, if you are a teacher, parent or carer, can be accessed as follows:

In two YouTube videos, Childnet digital leaders have also spoken about what it’s like if parents share things about them online https://youtu.be/iE-CK8Y9ck and share their thoughts about giving permission and gaining consent online https://youtu.be/iE-CK8Y9ck
One visible way to show your support is to print off a tablet computer shaped poster, write on it your pledge or tip to make the internet better and publish it online was a selfie. If anyone else is in the photo, make sure you have their permission! You can find the template here: www.saferinternet.org.uk/ourinternetourchoice-social-media-template
The UK Safer Internet Centre is a partnership of three leading charities — Childnet International, the Internet Watch Foundation and South West Grid for Learning, (SWGfL) — with a shared mission to make the internet a better place for children and young people. It operates the UK’s hotline for reporting online child sexual abuse imagery.
The partnership was appointed by the European Commission as the Safer Internet Centre for the UK in January 2011 and is one of the 31 Safer Internet Centres of the Insafe network.
In 2018 Safer Internet Day reached 45% of young people and 30% of parents in the UK.
