Chagford 4

Brixham Utd 0

CHAGFORD put the cup disappointment of last week aside as they overcame one of the pre-season title favourites, netting a very valuable three points and jumping to fifth in the table.

A big, robust side, United looked as though they might inflict Chagford's first home league defeat of the season. Stuart Wills, in the home goal, was certainly the busier of the two 'keepers initially but dealt confidently with anything Brixham sent his way.

Chagford worked their way into the game and out of the long ball syndrome that they seemed bent on playing for the first few exchanges. The tactic fed the visitors' defence nicely and gave Miller, at the front, almost too much work to do. Once they got the ball down, Chagford had the beating of their opponents and soon scored.

Just before the half-hour mark Chadwick and Gavillet broke up a Brixham attack in midfield, the latter sending forward a superb pass to Jon de Cruz. The ball skidded off a defender's head, de Cruz ran on to it and stabbed the ball past an onrushing 'keeper. Fve minutes before the break, Oscar Emanuel jigged his way past three defenders and fired a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

After the break, Chagford won, held and controlled the ball to make opponents do the work. Emanuel doubled his tally and Davis scored to keep himself at the top of Chagford's goalscoring chart. United had no reserves left to counter Chagford's best display for some time.

Chagford's central defender Steve Brown epitomised the defensive side by taking the Jail Ale man of the match award.
