OKEHAMPTON gave a stirring show of pride in the town with the town’s annual civic parade.

To the music of the Excelsior Silver Band, Mayor Mrs Jan Goffey led town and parish dignitaries, town organisations and fellow councillors through the streets. Army and air cadets joined in, as did scouts, beavers and guides.

Road closures were in place to enable the event to go ahead.

A civic service was conducted by Mayor’s Chaplain Canon Tim Newcombe and the Reverend Jerry Cook, acting superintendent minister of the West Devon Methodist Circuit.

Mrs Goffey said: ‘I enjoyed the event and I hope everybody who came did too. I was very grateful to all the voluntary services who gave up their Sunday morning to come and support me.’
