ONE of the world's leading wine makers hosted a sell-out dinner at the Three Crowns Hotel in Chagford last week.

David Hohnen, who founded Cloudy Bay, one of New Zealand's most famous wine brands, and now owns a boutique vineyard in the Margaret River in Western Australia, was the host at a four-course dinner.

Lauren Brazier, manager of the 13th century hotel, said: 'It is the first time we've done anything like this and it was a resounding success – the ticket sales speak for themselves.

'We were delighted to welcome David to the pub, and the customers enjoyed chatting to him in a relaxed environment and picking his brains on the world of wine.'

Food was cooked by head chef Tony Carr and the courses were chosen to accompany David's wines – three reds and two whites. He offered an expert insight into the pairings.
