A DONATION of £1,000 from the Co-operative's Community Fund has enabled the Get Changed Theatre Company to stage a series of theatre workshops for 20 adults, leading to a major performance at the Octagon Theatre, Okehampton, in February 2011.
Get Changed Theatre Company, based in Okehampton, aims to give adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn life skills, develop confidence and self-esteem through drama and education. It aims to promote social inclusion and community safety as well as reduces social isolation.
Pippa Tarr, secretary and trustee, said: 'We are the only theatre company in Devon for adults with learning disabilities running a continuous programme of drama and education leading to performances in the local community.
'We're extremely grateful for this grant from the Co-operative as we will be able to benefit even more people in the local area with our theatre workshops.'
Andrew North, regional secretary for the Co-operative in the South West said: 'The Community Fund can make a real and lasting contribution to local communities and supporting Get Changed Theatre Company is certainly a worthy cause.
'Many community groups share the same values as The Co-operative and could benefit from an award and we would certainly welcome their applications.'
