UNDAUNTED by the necessary cancellation of the first concert of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir’s 50th year which was also set to launch the first of the choirs two contributions to the Ocean City’s Mayflower celebrations, the choir, which has many members from the Tavistock area, swapped the grandeur of Plymouth Guildhall for comfort as it performed A Concert in Our Homes.

The concert was like no other of the nearly 200 performed by this choir during its long history — special, unique and bonding choir members together during these times of social distancing, said the choir’s leaders.

After witty introductions were made, the choir sang at home, sharing photographs of themselves, many dressed up in vivid colours, which were made into a montage on the choir’s facebook page (see above).

Brian Gerry, the choir’s president, dedicated the occasion to all those people, the NHS staff and other key workers, who are risking their lives on our behalf.

He reminded members of a quote by Aaron Copland,‘So long as the human spirit thrives on this planet, music in some living form will accompany and sustain it.’
