ONE of the UK’s premier long distance cycling events is to stop over in Okehampton in September.

The Deloitte Ride Across Britain is now in its seventh year and takes cyclists of all levels of fitness and ability through some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The first leg of this year’s event on September 10 is from Land’s End to Okehampton, a distance of 104 miles. Staying in the town for the night, riders will then set off from Okehampton the following morning towards Bath.

The Ride Across Britain is a multi-day ‘leisure cycle’ and not a competitive race. Made up of nine stages, up to 800 riders will take part.
