DEVELOPERS at an Okehampton Hamlets construction site have apologised for disruption caused to neighbouring residents following concerns about parking and noise.

Talks have taken place on site at Okement Park, which is the latest stage of the David Wilson Barrett Homes development off Crediton Road, Okehampton, between the site director and local residents, it has been confirmed.

People had complained to town and borough councillors of bad language from workers, obstructions caused by vehicles parking incorrectly and and excessive amounts of dust and building debris in the road.

One resident reported that a JCB had scraped right against the hedge and taken it out creating a potential landslip.

Cllr Tony Leech, who is both an Okehampton town and West Devon Borough councillor said: ’There has been too much taken away close to properties and complaints of workers on site using colourful language. These two issues were addressed.

’The next two issues were dust and mud when it rained. There were big issues with parking. [The construction workers] have big lorries and until the new road is built residents have little space to get out.’

The lack of a separate access point and parking spaces for the construction workers was one of the biggest concerns to residents as it has led to increased congestion within the housing estate, some damage to grassy areas and debris in the road.

A spokesman from David Wilson Barratt said: ’We are sorry there has been some disruption to the local community with parking and noise whilst we construct Okement Park.

’We are working with residents to limit this and our construction director has been to visit and talk with neighbouring residents to address their concerns.

’We have implemented new measures to reduce the mud and continue to work with our colleagues to limit parking outside of the development.

’We expect all our staff and contractors to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour on site and if there are any further matters residents wish to raise, please contact our head office in Exeter on 01392 826750 and we will be happy to discuss them.’
