THIS was always going to be a hard game for Okehampton. The first half saw Devonport enjoy 70% of the possession and 85% of the territory, but the Oke backs and forwards as a team defended strongly not giving Devonport a chance to score. With the exception of one high tackle by Devonport the first half was played in good spirit.
It seemed as though the quality of defending encouraged the Okehampton team and the lack of achievement by Devonport disappointed them as the second half saw Okehampton gain hold the majority of possession and territory.
The score line looked like it was going to stay 0 -0 which would have meant Devonport, as the away team, going through to the next round. However the match turned with five minutes to go. Devonport scored from what Okehampton claimed to be a forward pass near the Oke try line and the try was converted to give them a 7-0 lead.
Despite Okehampton pushing forward to try and level the score there was not sufficient time. Despite the result Okehamptons' team play, tackling and strong rucking all worked well.
