THE grandson of a couple who ran a ladies’ and gentlemen’s outfitter in Okehampton before, during and after the Second World War is appealing to people in Okehampton for help.
Mike Daggett’s grandfather Albert Edward Daggett ran A E Daggett’s with his wife at 23 Fore Street and 1 North Street from 1932 to 1938. They then moved to premises in 11 St James Street, running the business there until 1955.
Mike, who lives in Exeter, said he had always been curious to see a picture of their shop.
‘My father lived in Okehampton in the 1930s before the war, his parents ran a shop there, but I have never seen a photograph of it,’ he said. ‘I wondered if anyone from Okehampton might have a photo tucked away somewhere.
‘They used to have a shop in St Ives in Cornwall, my grandfather was the manager down there, then in 1931 or 1932 they bought the shop in Okehampton and moved up here.’
