THERE were clippers at the ready over the weekend as shearers took to the stage to compete in this year’s charity speed shear in Dousland.

Organised by Tavistock Young Farmers’ Club and older farmers, the event on Sunday raised money for Children’s Hospice South West and Devon Air Ambulance.

The day was well attended and as well as the main shearing event, visitors were able to enjoy facepainting, a hog roast, a barbecue and other refreshments.

The event was held in memory of John Bone who died earlier this year and was heavily involved in the organisation of previous years’ events.

The total money raised has yet to be counted up.
