A DRIVER had to be rescued from the top of his lorry after it ended up in a field near Thorndon Cross on Monday afternoon.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting a road traffic collision at Thornton Cross just after 2pm. Two crews from Okehampton and a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor attended the incident.
On arrival, the officer in charge confirmed a lorry had left the road and ended up overturned in a field. The driver, who appeared unharmed, had managed to get himself free of the lorry, but was stuck on top of it.
Crews used a short extension ladder, lines and small tools to assist the driver to the ground. The incident was made safe and left with the police.
