OKEHAMPTON Library has celebrated 100 years since the birth of author Roald Dahl by hosting an afternoon of marvellous activities.
Children accompanied by their parents and careers enjoyed an hour of activities held at the library on Tuesday, September 13.
As well as celebrating the 100th anniversary of the renowned author, the library has also completed its Big Friendly Read — a summer reading challenge that encouraged children to read six library books of their choosing in order to be in with a chance of winning a whole host of prizes.
The challenge had been kindly supported by the friends of Okehampton Library and Merlin Cinemas and was an event organised by The Reading Agency and was available to children in a number of libraries across the UK.
The afternoon of activities hosted by the library featured some of Roald Dahl’s most-loved characters and the incredible artwork of his principal illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake.
Libraries up and down the country have celebrated Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday by offering children the chance to enhance their reading experiences and become inspired by reading stories which have themes of invention, friendship and magic — all of which are explored in Roald Dahl’s most famous books.
