WHILE immediately admitting that I have no commercial interests locally, I have to ask whether anybody has stopped to consider what proportion of the population of Okehampton and its surrounding area actually want a rail link to be re-established from Exeter to Plymouth through the town. Quite apart from the fact that the cost of re-opening the line seems likely to be completely prohibitive, I can think of few things worse than the noise and disruption that it would cause. A lot of the charm of this part of Devon stems from the fact that we are not overwhelmed by holidaymakers every summer. Let us extol the beauty and quietude of northern Dartmoor and not try to ruin it! Neon Reynolds Bridestowe
