WHILE immediately admitting that I have no commercial interests locally, I have to ask whether anybody has stopped to consider what proportion of the population of Okehampton and its surrounding area actually want a rail link to be re-established from Exeter to Plymouth through the town. Quite apart from the fact that the cost of re-opening the line seems likely to be completely prohibitive, I can think of few things worse than the noise and disruption that it would cause. A lot of the charm of this part of Devon stems from the fact that we are not overwhelmed by holidaymakers every summer.
