A NORTH Tawton family who lost a baby to a life-limiting illness have collected £221.76 in his memory with a collection at a local superstore.

Luke Compton, his sister Evie and mother Nicky, all from North Tawton, raised money for Children’s Hospice South West at Tesco in Crediton on Sunday, November 26.

The family run the group Kaleb’s Tumbprint in memory of Luke’s son Kaleb, who sadly died in June 2015.

They raise funds for Children’s Hospice for South West through raffles, a curry evening and a quiz night. Luke has also run a number of marathons, raising funds through sponsorship and donations. Luke was supported by CHSW’s hospice Little Bridge House in Fremington, North Devon after Kaleb’s death.

’As a family, we felt we wanted to give something back and make sure that the help he had is available to another family,’ said Luke’s sister Evie. ’Sadly, we know that other families will have to go through what we did.’

Kaleb’s Thumbprint is also inviting people to join them for a church service of reflection in the busy run up to Christmas.

The Light Up A Life service will be held at St Peter’s Church in North Tawton on Friday, December 22 at 6.30pm.

People are invited to light a candle and remember a loved one. After each service, refreshments and mince pies are available, and there will be a collection for Children’s Hospice South West.

’It is a service that is a little bit different to allow people to reflect on someone special,’ said Evie.
