THERE were clear skies and great music at the finale of the 10th Okehampton Battle of the Bands, with Okehampton band Faustus MD taking the title. The competition kicked off in July with three qualifying heats, and Saturday's Party in the Park saw the five bands who had navigated their way through the heats take to the stage, alongside headline act Live/Wire. The first band on stage were The Copperfield Ensemble Project from Okehampton. The band, dressed in steampunk regalia, worked through their Victorian music hall inspired set with confidence. Next to the stage were fellow Okehampton band Faustus MD. An energetic performance, including a tribute to the headline act, provided a great alternative rock performance. Beacon Fire from Exeter were on next, and their atmospheric progressive folk rock went down well with the crowds in Simmons Park. They were followed by Plymouth's LGM One. Their songs, a fuse of indie, electro, pop and punk, had the crowd dancing along. The final band taking part in the competition was Pseudomorph. Their energy led well in to the headline act, AC/DC tribute act Live/Wire. Faustus MD were declared the winners, getting a slot on the billing for Chagstock 2015. Pseudomorph won the digital bookmark package from Physidigi, LGM One and Beacon Fire won a stage banner courtesy of SWH Signs and Donald's Menswear, and the Copperfield Ensemble Project took the £100 Project Music vouchers. This is the final year that the competition will be organised by Chris Hodgson. He said: 'Over the last five years we have had some fantastic events and have seen some great Battle of the Bands competitors. 'Loads of these bands are still playing, and some have really gone on to bigger and better things. 'We have also had some great headline bands, including The Hampsters, Ultimate Madness, Joey the Lips, The Bohemians, and Live/Wire. 'Thanks to those of you who have come and enjoyed it, to those of you that support local events and local music. 'I have my fingers crossed that somebody will take the event on and will build on it to make it even bigger and even better.' Organisers expressed thanks to sponsors Steven's Estate Agents, Balsden Vehicle Services, Okehampton United Charity and the Plymouth Inn, Okehampton Round Table, Okehampton Lions, Waitrose, Matt Woodley, Andrei Burton, Okehampton Town Council, Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council, West Devon Borough Council, Devon County Council, Project Music, SWH Signs, Skate Warehouse, Donald's Menswear, Bow Software, and Chagstock Festival.
