WEST Devon's folk and community arts development organisation Wren Music presents Folk On The Fiddle — an exciting day of traditional and contemporary folk music, featuring four of the UK's finest musicians — on Saturday, June 26 in Okehampton.
The evening concert features American Old Time Fiddle Music — the distinctive and beautiful sounds of the Appalachian Mountains, from Pete Cooper and Richard Bolton, with traditional and contemporary folk music from Devon, the South West and from further afield from Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll.
Described by Roots magazine as 'a one-man fiddle inspiration industry', Pete Cooper plays, teaches, composes, records and writes about fiddle music, and has been at the forefront of the British folk scene for over thirty years.
Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll are highly respected musicians, composers and workshop leaders from North Devon.
They have made a strong impact on the British folk scene and received national and international radio play.
In the morning there will be workshops for players of fiddles and other bowed instruments, suitable for musicians with basic skill levels onwards, focussing on developing techniques, skills and understanding.
In the afternoon there will be workshops for players of all instruments — not just bowed ones.
The concert will be held in Fairplace Church from 7.30 to 9.30 pm.
Tickets for the concert are £8, with a concessionary price of £5 for people in receipt of income-related benefit and those in full-time education, and are available by post and in person from Wren Music, 1 St James Street, Okehampton.
Tickets are also on sale at Rock Hen's Coop, 16 The Arcade, Okehampton.
The fee for the workshops is £15 (£10 concessions) for each of the morning or afternoon, or there is an all-day rate of £35 (£23 concessions) which includes all of the workshops and the evening concert.
Advance booking is advisable to ensure places at the workshops — call 01837 53754 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
