ST Andrew's Church in South Tawton saw its 'best ever' flower show last weekend, to raise funds for the church's roof appeal.
Visitors streamed through the church doors to see the diverse array of arrangements at this year's flower show, with many of those visitors proclaiming it the best ever. Seventeen local groups, including the South Zeal Carnival, Moor Harmony, the Moorland Group and Mariners Way singers all took part.
This year's festival was raising money for the church's roof appeal. The church's future is threatened due to the increasing necessity for repairs on the church roof and internal brick work.
The situation is so severe that the building has been placed in the highest category of English Heritage's 'Heritage at Risk' register, which highlights historical buildings in need of repairs or at risk if no action is taken.
Fundraising has begun in earnest, with grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Devon Historic Churches Trust helping the fundraising take off. The church has set up the Friends of St Andrew's, an organisation designed to meet the future need of the medieval church and help with the immediate task of fundraising for the roof.
