A WEST Devon garden club raised hundreds of pounds through its fundraising efforts to help support two charities.
Bratton Clovelly and District Garden Club has celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee by staging a number of fundraising events.
Proceedings started at the end of May with a successful plant sale, followed by open gardens over the jubilee weekend, and not to be put off by the miserable weather, a few hardy stalwarts manned the 'Splat the Rat' and 'Horseshoe Hoopla' stalls at the village Jubilee Fete.
As a result of the club's efforts, £650 was raised to be split equally between its two nominated charities, St Luke's Hospice, Plymouth, and the Devon Air Ambulance.
Representatives from St Luke's fundraising team were invited to attend the club's annual barbecue to receive their cheque for £325 and took the opportunity to gather support for their own open gardens event which runs until October, and to encourage garden club members to participate in the 2013 scheme.
The cheque to Devon Air Ambulance was presented at the club's meeting on Tuesday (July 17).
Monthly meetings take place at 7.30pm in Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall to which guests are welcome to attend. For more information contact 01837 871680.
