NORTH Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team collected £705 outside Waitrose in Okehampton on Saturday (March 10), thanks to generous donations from shoppers and residents.

The team also held a pub quiz and raffle on Friday night at The Tors Inn in Belstone, which raised a further £396.

The team was also called out on Saturday morning, while the Waitrose collection was taking place, to search for an elderly man who had gone missing from sheltered housing in the town.

After a two and a half hour search, they found the man making his own way home.

‘This lovely old gent was no worse for his adventure although a little bemused by the volume of people who come to his aid,’ said Mick Burke from the search and rescue team.
