BELSTONE North Devon League season came to a soggy end at the weekend with the games against Westleigh and Barnstaple and Pilton both cancelled due to the weather.
However, this could not dampen the celebrations at the club as Belstone had already become champions of division four. Promotion to division three next season was due to 11 victories and only one defeat, with six of those wins achieved by the commanding margin of nine or ten wickets.
The close-knit young team became adept at bowling the opposition out cheaply (North Devon 118-9 and 119-9, North Molton 113 all out and 117 all out, Braunton 70 all out, Lynton and Lynmouth 120 all out and 61 all out, Victoria Park 73 all out and 44-9) and quickly knocking off the runs.
There were four centuries in the league, Richard Drake's 111 against Barnstaple, Scott Tremain's 112 against Petrockstowe and 105 not out against North Devon and Chris Walpole's 105 also against North Devon.
The club's highest ever partnership for any wicket was the 211 put on by centurions Tremain and Walpole against North Devon.
League bowling of note included the best return of a player on debut, Rob Clarke's 6-28 against North Devon and Harry Bushin's league best of 6-22 against North Molton. There was even a hat-trick, by skipper David Binns against Lynton and Lynmouth.
The final game of Belstone's season is on Sunday, away at Bridford.
The club's annual dinner and awards evening will be on Friday, October 14 at the Tom Cobley Inn, Spreyton, to which all players, supporters and vice presidents are invited.
