How to use The Knack by Tavistock Physio

Calling anyone suffering from Back Pain, Hernias or Pelvic floor issues, Prolapse, or Stress Incontinence.

Tip of the day... Do you use the knack?

Everybody should know the knack.

Just remember to breathe out when you lift.

When you are about to lift a child, a grandchild, a breeze block, cough, sneeze, laugh, or jump... then you need to

l Breathe in to prepare

l As you breathe out (or cough or sneeze) lift your pelvic floor or tighten your tummy or if in doubt just squeeze all your muscles that fit under a large pair of underpants!

l At the same time as you lift, cough etc

This will automatically tighten your pelvic floor to reduce leakages, reduce pressure on a hernia or prolapse and protect your back.

Our Chartered Physiotherapists can teach you the correct way to move and lift so that you can bend, lift and squat without back pain or extra pressure on your .pelvic floor.

Each week we run a Pilates based Back Care class, and Post natal and Pelvic floor class, to help our clients improve and manage their lives.

Creating  the perfect healing condition with Okehampton Osteopath

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is based on the principle that the structure and function of the body are intimately related.

If the structure is not balanced and healthy then the function is affected.

Osteopaths focus on the body’s skeleton and joint function along with the underlying muscles, soft tissue and internal organs.

As treatment we utilise a range of techniques including physical manipulation, stretching and massage, and other gentle techniques such as cranial. Osteopathic patients range from babies to older people and pregnant women, and osteopathic techniques are suitable for children at all stages of development.

Osteopaths consider each person as an individual. Utilising a highly developed sense of touch, they can identify problem areas of the body.

Using gentle stretching and mobilising techniques as well as manipulating joints, an osteopath works with the body to create the perfect conditions to facilitate the healing process.

The osteopathic healthcare approach that provides a package of care that usually includes manual therapy, health information, self-management advice and support, and/or exercise therapy, as determined by the individual needs of the patient.
