HERE is a point of possible interest to people living locally and perhaps to visitors to this historic town of Okehampton. 

Recently, I was being driven in a new vehicle through Fore Street and approaching Okehampton Town Hall. Before turning into Market Street the driver, reading the dashboard of the car, said: 'That's interesting, we are 555 feet above sea level.'

Modern technology is wonderful and I only hope the calculation's right! 

However, it is an easy number to remember and perhaps prompts a question with answer for a quiz, or a special talking point for Masterminds keen to gather local knowledge and yes, for BBC Radio Devon's Matt Woodley who will be in the sea this week in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance appeal.
