I FULLY support Sue Wonnacott's concerns expressed in her letter 'Traffic congestion is hitting town trade' (September 20).

As a former West Devon Borough Councillor, one of the issues I raised during the Local Development Framework debate was the lack of infrastructure. I argued that improvements to the road structure should be in place before new development. But Devon County Council officers who attended Highways and Traffic Order Committee and informal Future Housing and Planning meetings insisted that there was no traffic problems in Okehampton!
