There’s been lots going on in the Okehampton area in the past seven days — here are the big stories in this week’s Okehampton Times.
• A borough councillor has warned an unofficial shortcut being used by pedestrians onto the busy Crediton Road is ‘an accident waiting to happen’.
• A man has been jailed after he drunkenly rammed a police car with his van and then hid the damaged vehicle in a barn.
• The latest section of the Pegasus Trail in West Devon was officially opened last week.
• There’s a chance to explore the town’s most famous ruin and enjoy the last of the spring bluebells at Okehampton Castle’s Bluebell Sunday celebrations this Sunday (May 19).
• Members of North Tawton Twinning Association enjoyed a taste of the French way of life during a recent visit to twin town Blagny-le-Chateau.
• The newly revamped North Tawton Memorial Park was officially declared open on Thursday last week (May 9) – with a BMX demonstration from the man who designed the skatepark element of the scheme.
• A young man from Sampford Chapple is cycling 2,000 miles from Barcelona to Land’s End later this month to raise funds for the children’s hospital where his brother had emergency brain surgery.
• Overnight road closures are needed to carry out essential resurfacing work on the A382 Ford Street, Moretonhampstead, later this month.

• Seventy-five occurrences of fly-tipping have been cleared by the borough council since January this year — but despite this, the unsightly incidents are apparently reducing ‘year on year’.
