THE Winsford Centre charity is appealing for members to join its luncheon club in a bid to get more people to use its facilities.
The centre, which offers a hot home-cooked, two-course meal and tea and biscuits every Tuesday and Thursday, provides transport for anyone who lives within ten miles of Halwill Junction.
Centre manager Daniella Coughlin said the trust needed all the support it could get: 'At the moment we desperately need people to come and use our luncheon club.
'We also need the community to use this building and take advantage of its facilities.
'We have all sorts of other things that go on here as well, but the centre needs to be used more.
'We provide entertainment most weeks, including singers, chair based exercise classes, a baptist minister who offers communion and also poetry readings — so we have something for everyone.'
The Winsford Trust also provides assisted bath facilities and toe nail cutting for any member finding it difficult to do at home.
Monthly trips take place on a Monday for anyone who fancies getting out and about to venues such as St John's Garden Centre, Ivybridge Donkey Sanctuary or a number of seaside resorts, both on the north and south coast.
Within the centre there is also a weekly doctor's surgery, a chiropodist, a chiropractor and massage and reflexology services available for the whole community.
Staff at the centre are also on the lookout for an upright fridge-freezer in good working order to replace their current one, which has been freezing on the outside.
The grade two listed building was taken over by the Winsford Trust in 1999 when the local community, led by Winsford Hospital League of Friends, formed a committee in partnership with Age Concern Torridge to secure the ownership and development of the building for the benefit of the community.
The trust will be holding a number of events to help raise money for the centre, including a curry night on Saturday, April 17, a pen and wash painting course from Monday, June 7 to Friday, June 11 and an open gardens event on Friday, June 11.
The luncheon club is run on a Tuesday and Thursday and costs £5 per person.
