THE jackpot has been hit yet again as Lady Luck continues to shine her light on Okehampton. Christine Gransby this week became the fourth Okehampton resident in under a year to strike it lucky on the Hospiscare Lottery, claiming the top prize of £1,000. When asked if she was pleased to win, Christine, who has lived in Okehampton for more than 20 years, replied: 'Not half!' She is planning to use her winnings to take a couple of mini-breaks. She has played the lottery on and off for four years and has previously secured £50 in winnings. Geoff Stamp, the Hospiscare Lottery manager who presented the winning cheque to Christine, said: 'The lucky streak for Okehampton seems to be continuing. Everyone who plays helps Hospiscare to provide dedicated care and support to over 2,000 patients and their families every year.' The Hospiscare Lottery raises more than £200,000 every year for Hospiscare and is one of the largest fund raisers for the charity. Two of the 30 Hospiscare community nurses are based in Okehampton. They provide care for people with terminal illness, giving specialist nursing care as well as dedicated emotional support. The Hospiscare Lottery is drawn every Friday and costs £1 a week. There are forty cash prizes with a top prize of £1,000.
