Porthleven 3

Okehampton Argyle 4

OKEHAMPTON were forced to travel short of players so both Paul Yip and Dave Smith stepped up from the third team to provide cover and had great games; veteran assistant manager Neal Agnew named himself as a substitute although he was not required to come on.

Despite being behind three times, Argyle never gave up and in the end came away with a creditable three points.

The visitors went behind on the half hour, when a free kick was awarded against Ed Squire. Porthleven's Jordan Adlard curled his 20 yard effort against the Argyle crossbar and Jamie Burr was on hand to tap in the rebound. Argyle were level within five minutes when an excellent through ball from Paul Yip sent Alex Wren bursting through the home defence to stab the ball home from 18 yards. The game remained all square at half time.

Okehampton got off to the worst possible start in the second half. A long ball over the Argyle fullback set Matt Fox free behind the visitor's defence and he pulled it back across the box for Dominic Batchelor to tap home. Eight minutes later, Argyle were level when Port keeper Richard Pennington fumbled the ball and Steve Williams forced the ball home in the resulting goalmouth scramble.

Okehampton still could not keep Porthleven out and within a minute the home side had restored their lead. This goal was almost a carbon copy of the second as Argyle were once again caught down their right flank with the same result – another tap in for Batchelor.

But Argyle were only behind briefly as Paul Yip picked the ball up on the right hand side 35 yards from the Port goal line. As he moved forward to cross the ball, he was challenged by a home defender and the ball took a deflection and looped over Pennington's head and into the net, leaving Yip on the ground not even realising he had scored. This good fortune spurred Okehampton on and both Steve Madge and Brad Ausden went close when clean through.

Then ten minutes from the end, the home centre half failed to clear a ball, and Brad Ausden was on to it, slotting home through the keeper's legs to give Okehampton a well deserved first away win of the season.
