WITH Okehampton businesses pushing to get as much support from local people as possible, the town's shops will be opening for late night shopping tomorrow (Friday).

Traders have decided to hold the 'pop up' shopping event to entice Christmas shoppers into the town. The evening has the theme of local food, with traders from the farmers' market attending, staff from Endecotts walking around the streets serving food, and staff at the Dovecote Restaurant cooking outside in Red Lion Yard.

The majority of the shops in the town centre have agreed to take part and remain open throughout the evening.

Jean Swift from Abstract said: 'The businesses here wanted to do something extra in the run up to Christmas, and late night shopping events like Edwardian Evening are a great attraction for shoppers. The vast majority of the town shops will be open.

'At this time of day the parking is free, so we are telling people to come on down and enjoy the local food and our local shops.'

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, December 13.

Everyone is welcome to come down and take part in the event.
