Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion has a busy weekend planned, with a big breakfast to celebrate the organisation's 90th anniversary and the traditional Remembrance Sunday parade.
Starting in the Charter Hall at 8.30am on Saturday November 12, a full English breakfast prepared by two cooks of the Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment will be available for £5.
Based in Aldershot, the two Gurkha cooks will be travelling especially to the South West to help the legion with the morning.
The morning will raise funds to help finance a joint project with Help for Heroes to provide four new personnel recovery centres in the UK. The event has been supported by local businesses and the town's supermarkets.
The following day, November 13, is Remembrance Sunday. The traditional parade will start at 10.30am from Okehampton Town Hall and march to All Saints Church for the service of remembrance.
Joining the parade will be a large contingent from 47 Field Regiment Royal Artillery, who have recently returned from a tour of Afghanistan. Representatives from the Army and Air Force Cadets, the emergency services, youth organisations and members of the Royal British Legion will also in attendance.
l Okehampton Royal British Legion Social Club will be holding its annual meeting at Station Road on Friday, November 25 starting at 8pm.
Business includes receiving a report by the committee for the last financial year, statement of accounts, balance sheet and financial report for that period, to appoint an auditor, together with club arbitrators, officers and committee.
Any other business the committee deems relevant, may be included on the agenda, providing it is submitted to the secretary in writing by a member, by Friday, November, 18. No 'any other business' will be accepted on the day. Club members are encouraged to attend.
