AS part of its 'Living History' programme, Okehampton Community Archive is organising several events to be held during the next few weeks.

On Thursday, September 20 and in celebration of the Devonshire Association's 150th anniversary, the OCA will be holding a guided walk around Okehampton, describing how the town would have looked 50 years ago in 1962.

The 'Walk the Talk' event starts at the Ockment Centre at 6.30pm, costing £3 per person to include refreshments at the end of the walk. It provides a good opportunity to relive some memories and get to know some of the town's recent history.

The following week, on Wednesday, September 26, Charles Westlake will be giving an illustrated talk on Okehampton in the 1950s. The talk takes place in the Ockment Centre from 7.30pm, with refreshments available. Donations for the OCA are appreciated.

Sport will be the theme of an exhibition organised by the OCA in October. Taking its inspiration from the successful London Olympics and Paralympic Games, the 'Sport in Okehampton' exhibition will include photographs of past sportspersons and events over the last century.

The group also hopes to attract displays from some of the many sports clubs in Okehampton.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm, and there will also be facilities to copy, print and digitalise your photographs as part of the archive collection.
