TOWN councillors in Okehampton have said they will not contribute an extra £9,000 towards the maintenance of public toilets in the town.

West Devon Borough Council invited the town council to consider paying 30% of the maintenance costs of the Market Street and Fairplace public toilets.

The borough council also announced it planned to close the facilities on Mill Road, and stated a contribution from the town council would make additional closures less likely.

Town councillor Kay Bickley said the move would mean the town was paying 'more for less' and it was agreed to decline the borough council's request.
