OKEHAMPTON and District Local History Society will hold its next meeting on February 8.

Jane Marchand, the senior archaeologist for the Dartmoor National Park, will give a talk on 'Preserving Dartmoor's Past'.

In 2011, she invited Channel 4's Time Team to investigate the Tottiford site after the draining of the reservoir revealed prehistoric remains. Since then there has been an excavation of a Bronze Age site at Whitehorse Hill.

The talk will focus on the preservation of Dartmoor's abundance of archaeological sites, and how possible damage can be avoided.

Meetings of the society are held on the second Wednesday of each months in the Ockment Centre at 7.30pm. New members are welcome and anyone interested should contact Malcolm Francis-Laing on 01837 840158. Non-members can attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person.
