A COUPLE from Sheepwash aiming to raise £65,000 for their grandson are continuing their fundraising efforts by holding a charity auction.
Anna and Buster Jones have spent the last few months raising funds for their two-year-old grandson, Jenson Tucker.
Jenson was diagnosed with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy, at six months old. Shortly after he turned one year old he was also diagnosed with epilepsy.
They have set the £65,000 target so that Jenson can travel to America and have a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operation. The procedure aims to reduce spasms caused by his condition. The money will also be put toward physiotherapy and special equipment to help get him on his feet following the operation.
They are almost halfway to their target, having now raised nearly £28,000, and have organised the auction dinner at the Pier House in Westward Ho! on October 18.
Among the unique items on offer are two BBC broadcast running orders, signed by Gary Lineker, from the 2010 World Cup Final programme and the final Match of the Day programme of the 2011/12 season, where Manchester City famously clinched a last-gasp victory against Queens Park Rangers to win their first league title in 44 years.
Other items include an Amy Winehouse framed CD display set, signed and donated by her father Mitch Winehouse, one week of self-catering holiday for eight at La Forge Retreats in France, Liz Earle cosmetics valued £100, and a Fields of Light family photoshoot.
The couple are selling tables for eight people, with a three course meal, at a cost of £280. They are also looking for anyone who would like to donate auction lots or raffle prizes.
The couple brought the appeal to national television attention when they flew a Devon flag in front of the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival in June. Beneath the banner was a second one promoting the campaign for Jenson.
