EASTER might be a time for chocolate treats, but OCRA has got a busy programme of sport and fun planned to keep youngsters fit and entertained during the Easter holidays.
On April 2, 4, 9 and 11, children can take part in sport and art days for six to 14-year-olds, when youngsters can enjoy a mixture of sport and art and craft activities. Potential sports include football, tennis, basketball, and on the Thursday sessions there will be opportunities to go swimming. The sessions run on both days from 10am to 3pm, with the first child of the family costing £9.50 and each additional child costing £7.50. Children will need to bring appropriate indoor and outdoor clothing, packed lunch and drinks.
On Wednesday, April 3, children can try out the exciting Olympic sport of handball at Okehampton College.
A frenetic and exciting contact sport, two teams of seven players pass a ball around to throw it past the opposing goalkeeper into the other team's goal. Boys and girls aged eight to 16 can attend the camp from 10am to 1pm to learn skills and take part in matches. The camp costs £8 per child.
The same day also sees horse riding on Dartmoor at Eastlake Stables. Ten to 18-year-olds can take part in the two hour ride from 2pm to 4pm. The session costs £20 per person.
Wednesday, April 10 will also be a jam-packed day, with a trampolining camp and gymnastics camp at the college. The morning's gymnastics camp is open to boys and girls aged eight to sixteen years old. All abilities are welcome. The sessions runs from 10am to 1pm and costs £8.
The afternoon's trampolining camp is for beginners and keen trampolinists aged eight to 16. The session offers the chance to learn and develop new skills or hone existing ones with a trampoline coach. The session runs from 2pm to 5pm, costing £8.
Friday April 5 promises a more relaxing day of bushcraft and outdoor adventure at Alder Lake from 10am. Children aged eight to 16 can cook on the camp fire, make some environmental art and take part in games. The session runs from 10am to 3pm, costing £15 including lunch. Youngsters are asked to bring a snack, a drink suitable clothing and wellies if there is wet weather.
Children in Highampton and North Tawton will not miss out either, as OCRA will visit both villages on April 8 for sport, art and play sessions. Highampton Village Hall will welcome youngsters from 10am to noon, while North Tawton Park will be hosting activities from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. There is no need to book, each session for six to 14-year-olds costs £1.50.
